Croeso i Flwyddyn 2!

Welcome to  Year 2!

Welcome to the  Y2 website page. Please visit our year group page regularly to keep up with the latest news and information!

Dear Parents

Thank you for continuing to support your child with their work during these unusual times. We have added more activities below for you to do with your child should you wish to use them. The most important thing is that the children feel happy and safe so we always try to keep the activities practical, fun and light-hearted. Remember to upload any work onto Seesaw as we are looking forward to seeing the what the children have been up to.

Stay safe everyone.

Miss Davies and Miss Mullan

(Year 2 teachers)

Hello Year 2!

How are you all doing? We hope you have had a lovely half term in the sunshine and we are looking forward to seeing photos of all the things you have been doing.

We are missing you lots and really enjoy when you put your work onto Seesaw and we can see how well you are doing. Along with the work we post on Seesaw we have also added some new activities for you to try on our new topic Land Ahoy!. Carry on being good for your mums and dads and stay safe everyone - we are very very proud of you all.

love from Miss Davies and Miss Mullan xx

Land Ahoy!

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum. Arrrr, me hearties. It's a sailor's life for me!

Our new topic is 'Land Ahoy!' where we will be learning all things to do with pirates. Get your sea legs on, it's time to sail the salty seas. Navigate, investigate and explore the world - just like Captain Cook. Make a boat, sink a ship, fly a pirate flag. Speak like a pirate, write like poet, then weigh and measure a pirate's booty! Sing a sea shanty and make a treasure map.

Thar's land ahead, me hearties! Let's get t'ship t'port...

Also, as part of our topic, the children will develop a wide range of Literacy skills. They will be reading and listening to a selection of different stories about pirates, writing a range of different genres, including poems, postcards and letters. In order to develop their oracy (speaking and listening) skills they will also have the opportunity to talk and act like a pirate.

You can also find this half term's homework activities attached below.

To support your child at home, use the link below to find a range of Maths activities:

Every Monday your child will be given a new spelling list which they will be tested on the following Friday. We encourage the children to practise their words daily using their spelling practice sheet. It would be helpful to your child if you would 'sound out' these words phonetically: e.g. s-p-l-a-sh.

Book Bags

The children are encouraged to read books at home and are asked to regularly return their books when they've completed them. We change the reading books on a Friday so please ensure that all books are returned in the school book bag before then.

In Y2, P.E. is on a Wednesday. We would be very grateful if you could make sure that your child has suitable kit in school (shorts and t-shirts and suitable footwear), clearly labelled with their name and that it is returned to school after each half term.

The children are provided with healthy, mid-morning daily snacks. We would be grateful if you would send £7 each half term to cover the costs.

Year 2 Kerb Craft

The children will be starting the Road Safety programme called Kerb Craft on Wednesday 8th January. Each Wednesday the children will be taken out of school in small groups in order to develop and increase their awareness when crossing roads.
