Croeso i Flwyddyn 2!
Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome to the Y2 website page. Please visit our year group page regularly to keep up with the latest news and information!
BEAT BOOGIE BOOGIE!
Our topic this half term is called Beat Band Boogie and the children will have plenty of opportunities to make a noise; exploring sounds and musical instruments. They will be marching in time to the beat and exploring high, low, loud and quiet sounds. They will be testing their listening skills to identify different sounds and performing in front of the other children. If we are feeling brave enough, we will even have a try at singing a 'round' in French!!
One thing is for sure: it's going to be loud!
Also, as part of our topic, the children will develop a wide range of Literacy skills. They will be reading and listening to a selection of different stories, writing a range of different genres, including writing a description, a set of instructions, a newspaper report, lyrics and a story. In order to develop their oracy (speaking and listening) skills they will also be re-telling a fairy tale where they have changed the ending.
In order to help support your child at home you could read a selection of fairy tales with them.
You can also find this half term's homework activities attached below.
This half term the children will be counting, writing and ordering numbers up to three digits, learning their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and developing their addition and subtraction skills.
In order to support your child at home, use the link below to find a range of Maths activities:
Every Monday your child will be given a new spelling list which they will be tested on the following Friday. We encourage the children to practise their words daily using their spelling practice sheet. It would be helpful to your child if you would 'sound out' these words phonetically: e.g. s-p-l-a-sh.
The children are encouraged to read books at home and are asked to regularly return their books when they've completed them. We change the reading books on a Friday so please ensure that all books are returned in the school book bag before then.
In Y2, P.E. is on a Wednesday. We would be very grateful if you could make sure that your child has suitable kit in school (shorts and t-shirts and suitable footwear), clearly labelled with their name and that it is returned to school after each half term.
The children are provided with healthy, mid-morning daily snacks. We would be grateful if you would send £7 each half term to cover the costs.
Year 2 Kerb Craft
The children will soon be starting a Road Safety programme called Kerb Craft. Each Wednesday the children will be taken out of school in small groups in order to develop and increase their awareness when crossing roads. Please return your child's permission slip as soon as possible.
