Croeso i Flwyddyn 2!
Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome to the Y2 website page. Please visit our year group page regularly to keep up with the latest news and information!
Our topic this half term is called Street Detectives. We will be looking at our local community, including types of houses and how the streets and the shops have changed. We will make maps and plans of the nearby streets and plot routes. What will we find?
Also, as part of our topic, the children will develop a wide range of Literacy skills. They will be reading and listening to a selection of different nursery rhymes and looking for rhyming words, writing a range of different genres, including writing poetry, directions, adverts, leaflets and instructions including directional language such as forwards, turn right and left etc. In order to develop their oracy (speaking and listening) skills they will also be retelling a story in their own words and making a television advert to persuade people to come to Barry.
In order to help support your child at home you could make sure that they know their address and are able to describe their route from home to school.
You can also find this half term's homework activities attached below.
This half term the children will be counting forwards and backwards beyond 100, identifying place value up to 1000, odd and even numbers, continuing to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and developing their addition, subtraction and multiplications skills. In addition to this, they will be learning how to collate data and represent it in pictograms, bar graphs, Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams.
In order to support your child at home, use the link below to find a range of Maths activities:
Every Monday your child will be given a new spelling list which they will be tested on the following Friday. We encourage the children to practise their words daily using their spelling practice sheet. It would be helpful to your child if you would 'sound out' these words phonetically: e.g. s-p-l-a-sh.
The children are encouraged to read books at home and are asked to regularly return their books when they've completed them. We change the reading books on a Friday so please ensure that all books are returned in the school book bag before then.
In Y2, P.E. is on a Wednesday. We would be very grateful if you could make sure that your child has suitable kit in school (shorts and t-shirts and suitable footwear), clearly labelled with their name and that it is returned to school after each half term.
The children are provided with healthy, mid-morning daily snacks. We would be grateful if you would send £7 each half term to cover the costs.
Year 2 Kerb Craft
The children will be starting the Road Safety programme called Kerb Craft on Wednesday 27th November. Each Wednesday the children will be taken out of school in small groups in order to develop and increase their awareness when crossing roads.
