Year 5

Croeso i Flwydden 5.

Welcome to the Y5 website page. Please visit our year group page regularly to keep up with the latest news and information!

Stargazers

Our topic last half term was Stargazers. The children were very eager to learn about the Solar System and we were very impressed by their enthusiasm to learn more on the subject in their own time. Our digital reading sessions were made more interesting by the children researching current space probes, landings and discoveries.

Alchemy Island

We are currently enjoying our new Science-based topic, which is called 'Alchemy Island'. We will be learning all about this fantasy world until  half term. Check back here soon for our exciting homework activities for this topic.

As the topic begins with going through a portal into a fantasy world, we will be reading 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' as our class novel.

Spellings

Every Monday your child will be given a new spelling list which they will be tested on the following Monday. We encourage the children to practise their words daily using their spelling practice sheet.

Book Bags

The children are encouraged to read books at home and are asked to regularly return their books when they've completed them. We generally change reading books on a Friday, although children are welcome to change them at other times if they wish.

Please ensure that all books are returned in the school book bag.

P.E.

In Year 5, P.E. is on Monday or Tuesday. We would be very grateful if you could make sure that your child has suitable kit in school (shorts and t-shirts and suitable footwear), clearly labelled with their name and that it is returned to school after each half term. We have also been enjoying our daily 15 minute Health and Well-being sessions at the start of the school day. These include skipping, jogging, zumba-based movement and Mindfulness. The children are always very enthusiastic and are making good progress in all of these areas.

Snack

As a 'Healthy Eating' school, the children are asked to bring a healthy snack such as fruit or cheese for their morning break.

Year 5 Swimming

Year 5 enjoyed their three week block of swimming before Christmas and made great progress during this time.  We have now received a record of each individual child's achievements and we will be passing this information onto the children very shortly.
